ArtRoom Collective Studio #10
Meet Alison Heavirland — the creative mind behind AH Metalworks. Below we dive into her art, inspiration, and life in (and outside) the studio.
What kind of art do you create?
I'm a metalsmith and enamel artist.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Prescott, AZ but lived in Alaska for most of my adult life.
What inspires you?
Nature inspires me!
How long have you been producing art?
I have been taking jewelry classes for 4 1/2 years now and have had my company for a year and a half.
What do you enjoy doing outside of creating art?
Outside of creating art, I love hanging with family and friends, traveling, mountain biking, skiing, hiking, and being outside!!
Can you share any upcoming projects or exhibitions we should look out for?
I will be a part of the Durango Open Studio Tour October 17-19! Come visit me in my studio at the Smiley Building's ArtRoom.
Durango Open Studio Tour is where merging and professional artists will open their doors all over Durango to have patrons explore local art studios, discover inspirational art and connect with artists. You’ll have the opportunity to purchase local fine art, explore artist’s techniques, and view a range of art in each studio.
When is your favorite time of day to create and why?
I like to start creating after my morning hike or bike with my dog. I like clearing my head and getting fresh air before I start my day.
Most adventurous thing you’ve done in your life?
I have rowed my own raft down the CO river through the Grand Canyon 3 times (25 days each) on winter personal trips. Sooooo much fun!!! Once was during a flood. Rowing through Lava at 38,000CFS was pretty mind blowing!!!
Favorite piece you've created (and if you have a photo of it, attach in this email)?
I don't have a favorite piece. I still feel like I am learning and trying so many new things with different techniques, my style and skills are still evolving.
What's something not many people know about you?
I was a sea kayaking guide in AK for 3 years before I got my Massage Therapy License.
What are you selling in your studio right now?
I am selling mixed metal pieces as well as enameled pieces: earrings, necklaces & other pieces. I am also an artist in the 9318 Collective in Silverton and more of my intricate work is there.
