ArtRoom Collective Studio #11

We recently spent some time with Julia of Studio #11, an artist whose creativity has been part of her life for as long as she can remember. After years of designing jewelry and raising a family while ranching in the Southwest, she’s spreading her wings and returning to one of her first artistic loves—painting.

What kind of art do you create?

I create paintings and a variety of jewelry.

Can you share your journey as an artist? What inspired you to pursue this path?
Art has always been part of my life. Being an artist runs in my family, and creativity was always encouraged growing up. I studied photography in college, which eventually led me into jewelry design and painting. These days, I still enjoy working in all of those mediums.

Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Michigan🥶

What inspires you?

Nature, especially the clouds and sky, inspires me deeply—but music is my main muse. It guides the rhythm and flow of my painting.

How long have you been producing art?
Art has been part of my life for as long as I can remember, but it really took off around age 20 when I participated in my first art show.

What do you enjoy doing outside of creating art?
Hiking with my dogs, riding my horses, and skiing with my husband

Can you share any upcoming projects or exhibitions we should look out for?
Right now, I have work in the Sundog Gallery show in Mancos, and a fundraiser for the La Plata Humane Society where I paint a snowboard every year.

When is your favorite time of day to create and why?
Late afternoon—after I’ve spent time moving my body and clearing my morning head.

Most adventurous thing you’ve done in your life?
Riding a horse across Morocco to Algeria, and later across Chile and Argentina

Favorite piece you've created (and if you have a photo of it, attach in this email)?
My favorite piece is always the latest one I’ve finished.

What's something not many people know about you?
I have ADHD and I consider it my superpower!!

What are you selling in your studio right now?
Original jewelry and paintings. I never make copies of anything, and I’m also open to commission work.
