We connected with Hannah to take a closer look at her artistic journey—diving into the influences behind her work, her unique process, and how she balances life and creativity.

What kind of art do you create?

I create impressionistic landscape paintings on top of vintage USGS topographic maps, inspired by the Mountain West. I also offer live wedding paintings and guest portraits, mural work, and products like prints, cards, hats, and yoga mats.

Can you share your journey as an artist?

What inspired you to pursue this path?
I’ve always been drawn to creativity and storytelling through color. I began painting consistently over a decade ago and slowly grew my art practice while working other jobs. Over time, I realized that making art – especially art rooted in place, beauty, and emotion – was how I felt most aligned. I followed that pull full-time 5 years ago and never looked back.

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, I moved to Durango 9 years ago!

What inspires you?

The outdoors, especially the mountains of the Four Corners region, human connection, maps, color, and the feeling of being fully present and alive in a place.

How long have you been producing art?

Over 10 years – but I’ve been painting full-time and professionally for the past 5 years.

What do you enjoy doing outside of creating art?

I love spending time in nature – hiking, canyoneering, traveling, hot springs – as well as spending time with my tuxedo cat, Swiss. I also enjoy yoga, and connecting with other creatives.

Can you share any upcoming projects or exhibitions we should look out for?

I do seasonal live wedding paintings and guest portraits at events around the region.

When is your favorite time of day to create and why?

Late morning to early afternoon – it’s when I feel the most energized, focused, and ready to let ideas flow freely onto the canvas.

What are you selling in your studio right now?

Original paintings, fine art prints, art cards, stickers, hats, and yoga mats featuring my mountain map artwork. I also take custom commissions and bookings for live painting.
